Sport-Extra Curricular - Tokoroa High School

Tokoroa High School offers a wide range of sports ranging from:

Students have the opportunity to participate for fun in athletics or to compete on the world stage. Our annual athletics event is a highlight of the school calendar. The houses compete in the chant competition and then on the track for supremacy points. Our top athletes go onto compete at regional meets with our elite athletes even taking up international opportunities. Excellent coaching is available to athletes who show potential and commitment. A professional coach is available for high achieving athletes.                                                                                              


The basketball club lays claim to the first-ever National Secondary Schools’ Basketball title when the senior boys’ team took out the title in 1969. The sport has undergone a resurgence of late and we now have male and female, senior and junior teams in the Central Country Basketball League and our local South Waikato League. We have skilled coaches who are dedicated to helping players to improve their game. 


Our boys and girls’ teams are known for their flair and commitment to their sport and have enjoyed success in regional competitions. The team participates in weekly fixtures against teams from throughout the Waikato area. Our coaches are well planned and well drilled and the future looks exciting for soccer.



Kiorahi is an exciting sport that requires a range of different skills, agility, speed and fitness. At Tokoroa High School our Kiorahi teams have experienced success at our annual regional competitions and are very competitive at the national level. If you have a keen interest in Kiorahi then we invite you to come along and join in with our school teams. We cater for those who are keen to learn and those who are wanting to compete.

Many of our students have made local and regional representative teams. Our netball coaches are committed to developing players’ skills and helping them to enjoy the netball experience.

Special Olympics
Students from Te Kahui Whetu have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics events with other Waikato schools. Teams train for and travel to events for aquatics, soccer, basketball and athletics. As well as participating in sport, the students also make and renew friendships with students from other schools. Certificates and ribbons are awarded for each event.

The development of the Touch programme at Tokoroa High School looks at developing and enhancing the skills of all students interested in achieving excellence on the touch field.
Our mixed team have experienced nationals and continue to dominate the field in our region.
Our boys and girls team are in the stages of growing as a team, with the eyes set on the prize.

Turbo Touch
Are you into fast-paced game like no other? It's  jam-packed with action and perfect for all fitness levels and abilities. A mix of Touch, Netball and Ultimate frisbee this sport is played indoors.
2015 saw both the boys and girls teams come away from the Secondary Schools Turbo Touch  Tournament with 1st place.
2016 saw the mixed, boys and girls teams come away with 2nd place. Tokoroa High School also won team of the year.
